Chiliz and Common Goal Team Up
The movement grows in a new direction
Chiliz, the sports blockchain, joins the Common Goal movement to help drive social change through football. The announcement made on-stage at the Paris Blockchain Week enables the movement to grow into the web3 sector by leveraging the power that blockchain technology offers.
Through the collaboration, a series of initiatives, new products, and services will be created focusing on:
- Bringing increased transparency, accountability and improved governance to the football for good sector by delivering more on-chain transactions and activity.
- Building web3 communities that deliver direct relationships with fans and charitable communities that share Common Goal’s values.
- Mobilising and empowering the community by using these tools to allow participants to play a greater role in determining the activities of the movement.
To help drive social change through football, Chiliz is pledging 1% of all its future revenues from Fan Token Offerings (FTO®️) on the Socios.com app to the movement.
“The great synergy we have always had with Common Goal is our shared desire to mobilise the global sports community to make positive change, but this partnership is an exciting move forward for us both,” said Alexandre Dreyfus, CEO of Chiliz.
“Through our technology and our network, we can work with them to build new communities, scale their movement, and reach new audiences. We can help them build products and services that will support engagement, transparency and governance, illustrating how Chiliz Blockchain technology can help create social change.”
The first joint initiative of the collaboration is The One Shirt Pledge. The call to action encourages players to donate a match-worn shirt with a special memory attached to it to help raise funds for Common Goal’s key impact areas – racial justice, mental wellbeing, gender equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and climate cction, and to support those affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria through relief funds.
“With the One Shirt Pledge, we are taking an important first step that unites some of the game’s brightest talents with fans and allows for an immediate and direct contribution to one of Common Goal’s key impact areas,” commented Thomas Preiss, Co-founder of Common Goal.
The One Shirt Pledge will run throughout April and May with Common Goal members Juan Mata and Giorgio Chiellini among the first to contribute joined alongside retired England midfielder Jermaine Jenas. Through Chiliz’s digital memorabilia authentication service, Gameused.com, the shirts will be verified and an integrated NFC chip will embed a video of the player explaining the importance of the shirt that can be scanned on a smartphone and viewed.
“We are delighted to embark on this journey with Chiliz and to leverage the power that blockchain technology offers in contributing to social change – all fuelled by our shared passion for football,” said Thomas.
“As a global movement we are dedicated to helping build communities that are able to create real and tangible impact in the world and, through this partnership, we see a great opportunity to grow the movement in an exciting new direction and really accelerate football’s potential as a force for good.”
