The world of sport is taking action in facing the challenges imposed by the impact of climate change worldwide with the launch of the Fields of Change handbook.
Created by Common Goal and Football For Future, in collaboration with adidas through their Move For The Planet initiative, Fields of Change is the first-ever resource dedicated to integrating environmental sustainability into grassroots sport.
The handbook, which is available to read here, is a comprehensive sustainability resource with the goal of empowering grassroots sports clubs and community organisations, many of which are located in areas vulnerable to climate change, with the tools and knowledge needed to implement practices in their work.
Sport and the world around it continues to face severe challenges posed by the dramatic change in climate such as flooded pitches, extreme heat, and limited access to safe spaces to play with Fields of Change presenting practical guidance and actions on how to impose environmental sustainability at grassroots level.
The handbook offers in-depth coverage of topics such as sustainable infrastructure, waste management, climate communication as well as offering expert understanding on sustainability and climate change.
The collaboration between Football For Future, Common Goal, and adidas exemplifies the power of collective action.
Through the Move for the Planet initiative, adidas is funding global projects that educate and engage communities on sustainability while enhancing sports facilities to withstand extreme weather conditions.
This collaboration exemplifies how sport can be a powerful force for environmental change.
“Fields of Change is a significant milestone in the journey toward sustainable sport," said Elliot Arthur-Worsop, founder of Football for Future.
"For the first time, community sports organisations have a resource that empowers them to protect their communities, support their environment, and lead the way in climate action."
Jérémy Houssin, Common Goal Sustainability and Environmental Lead said: “Sport is a powerful unifier, and through Fields of Change, we’re mobilising that power to respond to one of humanity’s biggest challenges: climate change.
"We are thrilled to have collaborated with Football For Future and adidas on this project, showing that even small steps, taken together, can spark global momentum.
"This resource is a testament to what’s possible when we prioritise our planet’s future and work together across all levels of sport”.
